Seeking to create dramatic and lasting change in the food system. We reconnect Americans with the people, traditions, plants, animals, fertile soils and waters that produce our food. We work to inspire a transformation in food policy, production practices and market forces to ensure equity, sustainability and pleasure in the food we eat… in essence, food that is Good, Clean and Fair.
What Is Good, Clean and Fair Food?
Good: Good food tastes good, and respects season, place and culture.
Clean: Clean food is grown in a way that protects the environment, and gives health to those who eat it.
Fair: Fair food is accessible to all and gives dignity and fair wages to the people who grow and pick it.
What We Do
Slow Food USA is part of Slow Food International, an eco-gastronomic non-profit organization of more than 100,000 members worldwide. With over 200,000 supporters, Slow Food USA oversees activities in the US, including nationally run programs and the support of over 225 local chapters that carry out the Slow Food mission in their communities. Chapters offer educational events and activities to promote sustainability and biodiversity, and to connect farmers, cooks, educators, students and everyone else who cares about their food and the environment.
Slow Food Wisconsin Southeast
Slow Food Wisconsin Southeast (WiSE) encompasses the metro-Milwaukee area and its surrounding counties. It was formed in 2003 as the second chapter in the state of Wisconsin. Our chapter joins the national organization of Slow Food in advocating the support of family farms and cooperatives, promotion of locally grown food, support for school gardens, conservation of regional culinary traditions and the maintenance of biodiversity. We are committed to working with other groups to achieve these goals.
