Opening Day Celebration 1st Annual BBQ and Greens Cook-offFondy Food Market, 2200 W. Fond du Lac Ave., Milwaukee

Celebrate the beginning of the market's full-time season. On Saturday June 14th, bring the whole family to see Milwaukee's self-proclained Greens Chefs and Pit-masters battle for the title of Champion. From the Little Tykes Tractor Pull to cooking demos, the day will be filled with fun events for the whole family to enjoy. Don't forget that our Opening Celebration marks the beginning of springtime market favorites like strawberries, sugar snap peas, asparagus and of course greens!!

Learn how to preserve the first fruit of the season to enjoy in the dark days of winter. This class is hands-on; participants can berry fruits into jams and preserves. Canning materials, fruit, instructions and recipes available.

Canning fruits and vegetables in a vinegar base is an age old practice for preserving summer's harvests. The instructor will guide participants in their hands-on efforts to preserve such vegetables as green beans and pickles. Included in the price of the class are all the canning materials, produce and handout with instructions, recipes and helpful tips.
