Soil Sisters: South Central Wisconsin Women in Sustainable Agriculture Farm & Food Tour Day

Sunday. August 10; 11:00 am – 6:00 pm

Celebrate local agriculture on August 10 by visiting small family farms led by Wisconsin women committed to a healthy, fresh future for our communities. From eggplants to emus, sheep to solar energy, bed & breakfasts to beef – these seven farms on the tour offer a unique diversity of farm experiences showcasing the summer’s bounty in one afternoon.

Soil Sisters highlights a cross-section of women farmers in south central Wisconsin, representing one of the fastest growing groups of new growers prioritizing small-scale, diversified, community-focused agriculture. Facilitated in partnership with the MOSES Rural Women’s Project, providing resources and support for women farmers. The farms will be open from 11 am – 6 pm and will be leading tours throughout the day. Tours and activities are free and open to the public and will take place rain or shine (come dressed for the weather). No pre-registration is needed.

The Soil Sisters Tour launched in 2012 to great response and now continues into it’s third year with extended hours until 6:00 pm. New for 2014: Farms will be showcasing various seasonal recipes using farmgrown items that you can then purchase the ingredients and make the recipe at home (bring a cooler). Recipes include items ranging from Orange Lavender Shortbread Cookies at Lucky Dog Farmstay to Lamb & Honey Meatballs at Kinkoona Farm to a Mediterranean Lentil Salad featuring various seasonal vegetables at Sandhill Family Farms.

Participating farms:

  • Lori Stern & LeAnn Powers, Lucky Dog Farmstay (New Glarus, WI)
  • Lindsey Morris Carpenter & Gail Carpenter, Grassroots Farm (Monroe, WI)
